Kasargod district has an enchanting place in Bekal Beach. The rivers, beaches, hills and forts of is Northern region of Kerala are most inviting. The beach is near the well known Bekal Fort and is about 18 km from Kasargod District. The places in the proximity of the beach standing on the west coast line of India are Mangalore and Kannur at 49 km and 93 km respectively.


Beach Overview The Bekal Beach seems broken and comprises of a series of beaches. Amongst these, the prominent ones are the Kappil Beach and the Bekal Fort Beach. Near the fort the land is shallow and the surf appears to be calm most of the time. It has recently become a very good resort to stay with the infra being revamped. Two sculptures of Theyyam and a structure which features the most famous art work of Nilambur artisans are installed at this site of the beach. Everybody adorns the walls of this structure as rich murals.

From the Bekal Fort the hill slopes continue down to the Bekal Beach. Adventure seekers should be really fearless to reach the rocky cape above passing through the bushy hilly slopes. The walls of the Bekal Fort have canon facing the sea, which tells the story of the past when ships came here for landing on the beach. There was fear from the rival merchants ships and pirates and this guarded the trading ships from them. A mosque built by Tipu Sultan is also one of the famous tourist places in Bekal.

Best time to visit Around the Bekal Beach just like all around Kerala there is heavy downpour of rains during the monsoon. The time before the onset of monsoons is the best time to visit this beach. This place enjoys pleasant summers. So, February to July is considered as the best time to visit this place. It is always recommended to visit the place during summer and avoid the winter because of low visibility.

How To Reach There The long distance bus stop and the rail terminal are situated in the town of Kasargod which is 19 km from this beach. Regular bus service and train service from a number of towns and cities like Kannur, Mangalore, Kochi, Thrissur and so on, ply to and from this beach town. The Bajpe Airport is located near Mangalore and is at a distance of 69 km from the beach which is the airdrome in this area.
