The hill station of Idukki, which is surrounded by mountains, sits atop the Western Ghats. Idukki has the world’s second greatest arch dam which is also Asia’ first. It is built across the Kuravan Kurathi Mountain and its beauty is hard for words to describe. The dam is 550 feet high and 650 feet long and along with it are two other dams in Kulmavu and Cherunthony.It is spread over an area of 7700 hectares with abundant fauna which makes it a tourist attraction.The district of Idukki also has the world’s second underground Power Station.

Idukki - Tourist Attractions Thekkady Located 130km off Kottayam and 190kms of Kochi, Thekkady is India’s largest Wildlife Santuary. It makes for an amazing expedition for any tourist in India. The total area of the sanctuary is 777 sq. Kms and there is an artificial lake of 25 sq. Kms surrounding it.

Mangaladevi TempleThe Mangaladevi Temple is just 13kms away from Kumily. The temple adapts the Pandian architectural style. It is many centuries old and it is amidst the thick forests of the Kerela-Tamilnadu border. The governments of both states jointly conduct the festival of the temple. The “Pooja” happens once every year on the auspicious day of Chithira Poornima.

Eravikulam National Park

Spread over an area of 97 sq. Kms, Eravikulam National Park has barren hills, rock rafts, meadows and also fascinating wild animals.

Anamudy It is situated 2694 meters above sea level. It is located on the southern border of the National Park and has the capability to offer a wondrous trip to the tourists with the Idukki Hill Station.


The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, from Devikulam, is only 60kms away.

Thommankuthu Thommankuthu is known for the number of waterfalls it has. It is situated 21kms from Thodupuzha. Since it is a place that is suitable for trekking, young tourists looking for adventure find it an attraction. The other small yet famous tourist locations in this place are Meenuliyarmudi (at Vannapuram Panchayathu), Keezharkuthu (Uumpannoor) and Irukallumud (Velliyammattom).
