Among the 108 temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu in India the Padmanabha Swamy Temple is one of them and it is known for the stone carvings and amazing mural paintings. The seven-storey Gopuram that forms the temple tower is adorned with an array of nymphs, goddesses, gods, and demons. On the coiled Serpent Anantha the presiding deity Lord Vishnu reclines in the posture of ‘Ananthashayanam’.

One can witness the work of the craftsmen carving and polishing wood outside the courtyard of the temple. Inside the temple Hindus are only allowed and here following the dress code is a must. A lot of devotees are attracted to this temple because of the intricate carvings, numerous pillars, and wall paintings. The city of Thiruvananthapuram has got its name from the Presiding Deity enshrined in this ancient Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
